Table Read

You can hear your script read aloud with Arc Studio’s Table Read feature! This makes it easier to catch typos, get a sense of your script’s rhythm, and find out if the dialogue sounds natural.

Table Reads are not included in your subscription and can be accessed via a pay-as-you-go credit system. Learn how to purchase credits.

Activate Table Reads in the Settings

To start, activate the Table Read feature in Arc Studio via the settings menu.

Click the settings icon (⚙️) in the top right and select “All Settings.”

2. Toggle Table reads to On

Start a Table Read for your Script

After you’ve toggled on Table Reads, you can start one for your script by clicking the speaker icon in the top right.

This will open up the Table Read sidebar on the right where you will find the player controls and the Settings.

Provider

The voices are not generated by Arc Studio. You can choose higher-quality voices from ElevenLabs, or more affordable voices from Murf. Using Murf costs half the credits of ElevenLabs.

You can see your current provider at the top of the Table Reads sidebar. To switch providers, click Switch.

Voices

In the voices section you will see the number of speaking characters and how many of them have not been assigned voices. Click Manage voices to assign the voices.

This will launch the voices menu:

You will see the narrator and characters on the left, and the available voices on the right. You can search and filter the voices on the right to find the correct voice for the character.

Previewing voices

Click the play button for a voice to hear a preview of it.

Assigning a voice to a character

There are two ways to manually assign a voice to a character. Either:

• Drag and drop the voice on the right to the character on the left.

• Select the character on the left, then click the + button from the voice list on the right.

Auto-assigning voices

You can auto-assign voices to characters who don’t yet have a voice assigned to them. The auto-assigning is not based on the script; it is based on the description of the character from the character element card. Learn more about character element cards.

To auto-assign voices to the missing characters, click Auto-assign missing.

Settings

Autoplay Next Scene - When toggled on, the Table Read will continue reading the next scene. When toggled off it will stop at the end of the scene it’s currently reading.

Playback speed - You can increase the speed at which your script is read via the dropdown menu.

Pause between paragraphs - Move the slider to adjust how long the pauses are between the different elements.

Vocalized elements - Choose which elements you want the voices to read:

• Dialogues - Only the dialogue elements will be read aloud.
• Scenes, Action and Dialogue - Only the scene headings, action paragraphs, and dialogue elements will be read aloud.
• All elements - The entire script will be read aloud, minus the character names and parentheticals.
• Credits - You can see the estimated cost for the current script, your current credits balance, and an option to Add credits.

Listen to Your Script

1. Click Play to start listening to your script.
2. Click Next Element to skip forward to the next element.
3. Click Next Scene to jump to the next scene.

Click Stop to stop the read.

You can also listen to specific parts of your script by clicking on the play icon in the right margin next to the element you want to start reading.

Or use the keyboard shortcut Command + Option + R (Ctrl + Option + R on PC) to play the line where your cursor is.

Export (Download Audio File)

To download the audio file of your Table Read, click Export at the top of the Table Read window.

This will launch the progress monitor. You can stop the export or close the menu to continue working.

To open this window again as the export is being generated, click Progress at the top of the menu.

You will be emailed a link to download the audio file when it’s done

You can also access your exports via the export section at the bottom of the Table Read menu in the right sidebar. Click the download button to download.
