Arc Studio lets you create and organize all the student assignments for your classroom. To see the assignments for a class:
- Click on
Classroomsin the left sidebar on the desk - Then choose the classroom (every classroom in which you have been added as a teacher will be listed).
The two ways to create assignments
There are two ways to create an assignment for your students:
- You can create an assignment via a script template that you as the teacher create. A copy of the script template will be created for each student, and the teacher is automatically included as a collaborator to monitor the student work and give feedback. (Note: In this approach the students need to do their work in the copy the teacher creates for them. They should not create new scripts or import scripts.)
- You can create an assignment where students can submit scripts they have imported into Arc Studio or created themselves in Arc Studio.
Approach 1: Creating assignments via a script template
To start, create a new script and fill it out with whatever information you wish to share with your students.
Students will receive an email invitation to accept the assignment, as well as an in-app notification, as shown below. They will need to accept the invitation to work on the assignment.
How to find the assignments you have created
Teachers can find the assignments they’ve created by clicking Classrooms and then choosing the classroom.
How to re-send an assignment (or add a new student)
To re-send an assignment, or add someone new, just click on the student management icon for the assignment in the top right.
This will launch the pop-up window where you can choose students to send the assignment to via the checkboxes or adding their email addresses in the field at the bottom. Once you’re done, just click Add students.
Approach 2: Creating an assignment that students will submit their own scripts to
If students will be creating the scripts themselves in Arc Studio or importing the script file into Arc Studio, you can create an assignment and invite your students. They will be able to submit to that assignment.
Students can submit scripts to the assignment
Via the dashboard:
Via their classroom:
Finally, students can also submit a script to an assignment by clicking the … menu for a script in their main script list and selecting “Submit to assignment”
Assignments with production components
If the assignment is going to have a production component in Arc Studio (breakdown, schedule, shot list/storyboards) then the students need to submit their assignment as a project, not a script. If they submit it as a script only, you as the teacher will not have access to the production component.
- If the student only has a script (they haven’t done their breakdown or created a schedule) they need to create a project and add their script to the project. Then they can submit that project as an assignment.
- If the student has already started their breakdown, the project will have already been created. They can submit that project as an assignment and the teacher will have access to both the script and production portions of the project.
How to give feedback on a script
To leave a comment on a student’s script, simply highlight the section of the script and click the comment bubble on the palette bar. (The palette bar will either be at the bottom of your screen or appear when you highlight the work.)
You can use @ to notify the student of the comment by selecting their name. (The student’s name will only appear if they are a collaborator on the script.)
You can also create custom tags for the comments, which make it easier to filter through comments later.
