How Do I Create Outlining Templates?

You can create a custom Beat template to use in the future. The template will include all the acts, the number of beats in each act, and the structure role for each beat. If the beat doesn’t have a structure role, the name of the beat will be used as the structure in the new template.

In addition, you can choose whether the template includes:

    • The Beat titles
    • The Beat synopsis
    • Your Notes
    • The Script itself
    • Custom formatting from the Script

The sequences, tagged story elements, images, and comments will not carry over into the template.

    1. Create the outline or ‘beat template’ you want to re-use, either from scratch or by adapting an existing template.
    2. When ready, click the Export icon in the top right.
    3. Select Create template

    5. Choose a name for the template

    7. Check the elements you want to include with the template. Uncheck the ones you don’t. You can include
      1. Beat title - The names you’ve given each Beat.
      2. Beat synopsis - The synopses you’ve written in the Beats.
      3. Notes - Any notes you’ve created in this script you’re creating the template from.
      4. Script - The script itself.
      5. Format - The formatting of this script, such as custom elements or spacing.
    8. When you’re done, click Create

You can also share your templates with others.
